How many of you have heard of Johnny Castaway?  Hmm, I see a few hands going up.  For those of you that don't know, Johnny Castaway is a screensaver.  'Yeah, yeah, what's so special about a screensaver?', I hear you say.  Well, this is a screensaver with a difference... it tells a story!  

Johnny is shipwrecked on a small desert island, and longs to escape back to civilisation.  We get to see Johnny in all sorts of antics and adventures, as he copes with day-to-day life on the island.  His frequent attempts to be rescued always seem to end in failure (poor Johnny).  He tries to write SOS messages, and send them in a bottle... but the bottle always floats right back to the island, leaving a very disappointed Johnny.  While looking through his telescope, Johnny will miss a variety of planes and boats, thus missing out on his chance to be rescued.  I've also seen Johnny catching the attention of a large ship, which then sinks the whole island!  

Like anyone, Johnny has to eat regularly.  So he gets out his little fishing rod, and fishes for... an old boot, a starfish, an octopus, a life belt, a crab, a plank of wood, oh and the odd fish as well!  Sometimes, he wants to eat coconut from the coconut tree, but that proves to be quite tricky, as those coconuts seem to have a mind of their own.  If he manages to catch one, he will then break it open by banging it on the tree.  Keeping himself entertained on a small island is not easy.  But Johnny does his best, by reading a book (upside down), exercising (he goes behind the tree to get changed), and building sandcastles (Johnny jumps with rage when it starts to crumble).  Sometimes, he climbs up his tree, and dives into the water.  His performance is then graded by local marine life, which always makes me laugh.    

But this is only the tip of the iceberg!  On special days such as Christmas, New Year, and Halloween (perhaps other public holidays, as well?), the island is suitably decorated with Christmas Tree, New Year banner, or pumpkin.  If you are lucky, you will see Johnny perform a rain dance (and get struck by lightning), or literally melt with the heat.  On rare occasions, Johnny actually gets rescued, but then is forced to return to the island.

And as an extra bonus, there is even sound!  You can hear poor Johnny muttering to himself, when things go wrong.  He makes a loud SPLASH when diving into the sea, and he grunts will jogging.  Even banging coconut on the palm tree (to break it open) makes an amusing sound.  There is so much entertainment to this screensaver, you can't help but be impressed.
