Okay, how many of you gamers out there remember Bomb Jack?  How many of you visited the local arcades, clutching your bag of 10p coins?  Ahh, those were the days!  Bomb Jack is one of those classics that has stood the test of time.  And this remake is just as addictive as the original.  But Vista users, please note that you will need DOSBox to play the game.

Some of you youngsters may wonder what Bomb Jack is all about.  Well, like all the best games, the concept behind Bomb Jack is very simple.  You must guide our hero, as he attempts to collect all 24 bombs on the screen.  The bombs can be picked up in any order you like, but as soon as you get your first bomb, a fuse will light up on one of the other bombs.  If you collect bombs in the order that they light up, then you get bonus points for each 'correct' bomb.  But don't worry, you still get points no matter which order you pick them up.

Of course, there is a whole range of baddies out to get you.  These baddies come in all shapes and sizes, including birds, mummies, flying saucers, and more.  The longer you take to collect all the bombs, the more baddies will appear on screen.  If one of them touches you, then you lose a life.  To make things a little easier, you may occasionally see a Power Pill.  If you manage to collect this pill, then all enemies on screen will turn into smiley faces for a short while.  This is your chance to get revenge, as you can clear the screen simply by picking them up.  But don't hang about, because they will change back after a while.  Once you have picked up all the bombs, then you can progress to the next level.

You begin the game with 3 lives, and this is shown on the right (along with your score, and the current level).  Bomb Jack himself is very easy to control, and you can even redefine the keys to your own preference.  Using default keys will allow you to move him left and right by pressing Left & Right cursor key, and jump up by pressing the Up cursor key.  The clever thing about Bomb Jack is that he can jump amazingly high, allowing you to reach those seemingly impossible places.  As well as that, you can change direction mid-jump, simply by pressing Left or Right, and this is very handy for avoiding enemies while you try to collect the bombs.  So go forth, and get bomb-collecting.  You won't regret it.
